Bringing on America’s Fall

Editorial cartoonist Tom Toles has an amusing bit about how we can blame our politicians for everything:

You don’t have to consult any experts; you can see with your own eyes what is happening under the Obama administration. The leaves, ALL OF THEM, are coming off the trees! Sure, you can try to dress that up in pretty colors, but Obama promised GROWTH, and what we’re getting instead are BARE BRANCHES!

Our homes used to be places where we could relax in comfort with the windows open. But now? There is a CHILL in the air. What was all that talk about WARMING TRENDS? Sweaters don’t lie. The facts in the paper say it’s colder than it was JUST ONE MONTH AGO, and this when Democrats control BOTH houses of Congress. Why don’t you try and explain why your health-care plan didn’t stop me from catching this miserable head cold? Time for some hot TEA!

And whatever happened to our DAYLIGHT after dinner? Don’t try saying that it isn’t getting dark earlier, Mr. Socialist! You may not have CAMPAIGNED on taking away our daylight, but facts are facts, and you can’t run away from them. Oh, and how about reckless squandering of these very resources? Daylight SAVINGS Time is about to expire ON YOUR WATCH! You didn’t lift a finger to prevent that. Don’t think we are too stupid to notice! Well, the voters have a big message to send to you Mr. Anticolonialist: the winter of our discontent is coming!

OK, what else can we blame the Democrats or the Republicans for?

We can blame for being so blameworthy. After all, if they weren’t there in the first place, who would we have to blame?

And we should blame them for putting themselves into this position to receive such blame. I mean, after all, if… er-r, uhm, wait… we vote them into office, don’t we.

    Never mind.

Why are there so many bugs outside? The politicians certainly have not done enough to prevent all of the nasty bugs from interfering with my walk in the park! :-)

OK, what else can we blame the Democrats or the Republicans for?

Having too many oxygen thieves in Congress.

I just hate that the republicans are so lizard brained that they cant see how right the democrats are. and i hate that the democrats keep calling republicans lizzard brains. where is the civility. It is one think to know that it is a fact that republicans are lizzard brains but how are we supposed to get them to cooperate if we dont pretend at least to respect them??!!! the democrats sure are stupid not to have this basic strategy down…. but we are NOT lizzard brains at least! hahahahahaha!

We can blame the Democrats for hubris. Politicians cannot stimulate economic prosperity and they cannot create jobs. They cannot legislate affordable healthcare into existence. They cannot save dying industries and cannot prevent bankers from taking risks. They cannot stop an underwater gas leak or cause the lame to walk through the magic of embryonic stem cells. They cannot convert murderous religious fanatics into peaceful citizens through force of personality. They cannot convert murderous religious fanatics to good citizens through force of personality. They cannot create democratic societies through military force. They cannot end racism. They cannot manage climate change.

Did I miss anything? Almost everything Obama promised is beyond the capability of the state to deliver. A little bit of humility would be most welcome on both sides of the aisle.
