The Muslims’ end of the world countdown

Harold Camping isn’t the only one forecasting the end of the world.  So are many Muslims, including apparently the rulers of Iran, who are interpreting the uprisings in the Middle East as a sign that the Mahdi–the messianic successor of the prophet Muhammed–will soon return to punish evildoers and make Islam the world’s only religion.

New evidence has emerged that the Iranian government sees the current unrest in the Middle East as a signal that the Mahdi–or Islamic messiah–is about to appear.

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video produced by the Iranian regime that says all the signs are moving into place — and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times.

While the revolutionary movements gripping the Middle East have created uncertainty throughout the region, the video shows that the Iranian regime believes the chaos is divine proof that their ultimate victory is at hand.

The propaganda footage has reportedly been approved at the highest levels of the Iranian government.

It’s called The Coming is Near and it describes current events in the Middle East as a prelude to the arrival of the mythical tweflth Imam or Mahdi — the messiah figure who Islamic scriptures say will lead the armies of Islam to victory over all non-Muslims in the last days.

“and that Iran will soon help usher in the end times.”

This is the troubling part. Iran will usher in the end times by creating chaos via terrorism and war. There is nothing that disturbing about a religion having end times theology. But what is problematic is when you think you as a person or a gov’t need to cause chaos to trigger the end times.

To be fair wouldn’t it be a better title “The Shia end of the world countdown’, I don’t think the Sunni branch of Islam, which is in the majority, hold to this. I mean we Lutherans around here get upset being roped in with Rome or Geneva, not all Muslims, in fact most, do not confess this theology.

Both Sunni and Shia beleive in the return of the Madhi as part of the end times. So, it is fair to include both.

Yes, Ryan, I originally did have just “Shi’ite,” but then I read the Wikipedia article and found that the Sunnis too look forward to the coming of the Mahdi.

Even though there may be resources stating that Sunnis are looking forward to the return of the Mahdi I am not sure that it is a complete or accurate picture. I don’t ever remember hearing my Sunni family/friends ever speaking of the return of the Mahdi.

They did believe in a return of the Caliphate and that Jesus would return and that a war would take place where they would defeat Israel (truly I had no idea about any of this when I married my ex years ago). They are Sunni from North Africa which might make a difference rather than being from the Arabian Peninsula or SE Asia. And they also thought Shia were just a little bit crazy – kind of like a weird Uncle you tolerate but don’t really want to have at family gatherings.

I do think the Iranian governments involvement in this is very disturbing and I wholeheartedly believe they would be more than happy to assist in ushering in the end times.

I suppose that nothing can stop these rabid enthusiasts from believing the lies of the devil in these last days, but they will be sorely disappointed (for eternity!) when their hopes are dashed in the reality of eternal punishment in hell.

What the Christian looks forward to is the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, who will crush the devil’s power once for all and bring about a new heaven and earth.

Correction. The CBN “news” story also quotes “Mideast expert Joel Rosenberg” at the end. But don’t fear. There is also a link for you to purchase his book at the CBN store, as well.

Oh, and the video, which you can watch in full at the link provided by the article (which goes to a Web site to promote Kahlili’s book) starts by reminding you to buy Kahlili’s book. The YouTube account on which this video was posted has a user name that is the same as the book.

Meanwhile, let the passive voice that runs rampant in this article be praised!

    New evidence has emerged…

CBN News has obtained a never-before-seen video… [Yeah, because the article was posted on the same day that the YouTube video was. We've all "obtained" it the same way as CBN.]

The ongoing upheavals in other Middle Eastern countries like Yemen and Egypt–including the rise of the Muslim Brotherood — are also analyzed…

Why, whoever is behind all this “emerging”, “obtaining”, and “analyzing”? Think it’s the guy with the book to sell?

Likewise, witness the awesome narrative power of “the video”:

the video shows that the Iranian regime believes…

    The video claims that…

And it [the video] makes clear the Iranians believe…

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadenijad, who the video says…

Look, CBN, you know the guy who made (or at least edited) the video; you’re selling his book. The video isn’t “showing”, “claiming”, or “saying” things — Kahlili is.

Poorly written, poorly sourced, and with a clear economic conflict of interest. All of which give me ample reason to ignore this story.

This passage of Scripture speaks of the antichrist –

1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

    3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

(we see a great “falling away” today) – (the antichrist)

4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

(the world will think that the antichrist is Christ, that is the big lie)

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2 Thessalonians 2

    ||Satan is the counterfeit, he is the one who wanted to make himself as God.||
