How many lesbians are actually men?

A blog entitled “A Gay Girl in Damascus” by an Arab-American lesbian named Amina Arraf attracted quite a bit of attention with her accounts of living in the oppressive and dangerous society of Syria, chronicling too  the “Arab Spring” of the populace rising up to demand freedom.  The blog especially made headlines when a contributor claimed that Amina had been arrested by Syrian authorities.  But now it turns out that the whole blog was a hoax and that the lesbian Arab was really a married man from Georgia named Tom McMaster.

The gay community, of course, was outraged.  The lesbian blog Lez Get Real was especially indignant.  But now it turns out that the woman who has been running that blog for 8 years is herself a man, Bill Graber, a 58-year-old married construction worker from Ohio.

via Paula Brooks, editor of lesbian site Lez Get Real, is really a man named Bill Graber – The Washington Post.

I mean, men have a lot in common with lesbians–they are both attracted to women–but what is going on here?

And, perhaps more importantly, who cares? I mean, there’s a game seven in the Stanley Cup final series tonight and all we have to blog about today is pseudolesbianism?

    tsk, tsk.

It’s got to be an attempt to rake in all the advertising revenue these lesbian websites generate by providing a good to an obviously under-served niche community. He should be celebrated for providing a desired diversity product that the lesbian community was unwilling or unable to provide for itself.

The author’s reasoning? “It didn’t happen, but it is true anyway.”

Except that nothing in it was true. Sounds familiar. The new way of providing the news.

Alright…. there’s nothing funny about a sinful lifestyle like homosexuality, but that just made me laugh.

    LOL

diversity is a state of mind

He may be a white boy from Georgia on the outside, but inside, and on the internet, he is a Syrian lesbian.

The question now is, is there a lesbian Syrian who is a Georgia white guy on the inside, or on the internet?

So, are bloggers less diverse than we think? I mean how many “diverse” bloggers are really white dudes? Who else may really be pretending he is a woman or other more fashionable ethnicity? Is this empathy gone awry?

Speaking as a lesbian traped in a man’s body; do I get affirmat action treatment from the government? If I don’t, can I sue? May I dismiss all who disagree with me as bigots and homophobes?

So, Pr. Spomer, if you are a lesbian do you support homosexual marriage in those cases where one party is trapped in the body of a member of the opposite sex? But, what if your wife is really a gay man?

    SKPeterson,
Eegad! You’re right! This is more complicated than I thought. Also, I didn’t consider Ordination. (Don’t say anything to my District President; at least not until I can sort this out.)
How shall I broach the topic with the Misses? “Dear, I er, I always admired your fashion sense. Do you suppose…”

I don’t know, “Dr. Veith”. Do you really want us to start digging around into the true identities of blog authors?

I mean, it could be a coincidence, but, you know, I’ve never seen “Dr. Veith” and Rachel Maddow together in the same room, if you know what I mean.

Gender, and by extension sexuality, is merely “improvisation in a scene of constraint,” after all. Judith Butler told me so.

Doug Wilson wrote about Rep. Weiner and his recent woes and I thought that this story seemed to fall into the same category of perhaps God showing a sense of humor when this stuff happens. I may be off in seeing a connection, but the irony in both situations is outstanding, nonetheless.

Because fans of other teams are never unruly. How oft we forget the proletarian roots of modern team sports…
