Packers lose!

The Green Bay Packers, with their 15-1 record, having secured the first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, promptly lost to the New York Giants, a 9-7 team they had already beaten once in the regular season.  How could that be?   The Giants were beaten by the lowly Washington Redskins.  Twice.  The universe is out of joint!

And the New Orleans Saints went down.  Tim Tebow’s miracle run with the Denver Broncos was bound to end, so the Patriots’ victory is no surprise.

What do you think will happen now?

Who cares. The Eagles, full of promise at season’s start, sputtered and went “poof”. I will sulk. And boo.
But I must admit that I relished the prospect of a Brees-Rodgers matchup – two absolutely remarkable QB’s. Not to be.

First, we will get to take a trip in the way back machine as the the two NFC teams advancing were mainstays of the 1980′s and early 90′s. But I predict a 49ers v. Patriots Super Bowl.

I will cheer for the 49ers, something I have never done before, but the Patriots will win the game.

I think the Ravens may give the Pats some fits and make it to the Super Bowl. And, I too, will be in the odd position of cheering for the 49ers. If the Giants win, I will be rooting for the Ravens. If it is a Pats-Giants game, I probably won’t watch.

Forty-niners vs Ravens Superbowl. Many will extol the virtue of defense over offense neglecting the obvious – it is the final score which determines the champion. Still a Packers fan by birth rite!

“Still a Packers fan by birth rite!”

    Ooh, do tell.

I have not heard of this sacred rite by which babes become Packers fans.

Do they mark the little one with a jersey or team colors?

Is it a secret rite, that no one dare divulge?

Does it suffice to annoint the head with cheese, or does it require full immersion?

Niners over Giants, Patriots over Ravens. Patriots over Niners in the Super Bowl. I’m with Joe @2 on that one.

The take-away from this year though, is what an incredible coach Jim Harbaugh is. Watching how quickly he coached Stanford up to elite top ten status, and now watching how quickly he coached the Niners up in a single year of coaching, is amazing. Two of the four remaining playoff teams are coached by the Harbaugh brothers — Mom and Dad must be proud!

Steelers lost to the Broncos, so I was definitely rooting against Denver. I will mildly root for the 49ers.

It was a blegh season for me.

It was a good run from the Packers. Rodgers and many of his teammates deserved to be in the Super Bowl again, but they couldn’t manage to repeat their previous 15 performances last night.

Oh well! At this point, none of the remaining contenders are remotely interesting to me. I’ll be more interested in the snacks than the football this year.

Ravens vs Giants in the Super Bowl with the Giants winning it all. Just a note the Packers are the first 15-1 team to lose in their first playoff game.

Too bad your Steelers couldn’t beat the Broncos. They might have given the Patriots a better game.

What will happen now? We’ll have a dandy of a rematch in the Super Bowl: Patriots vs. Giants. The outcome will be different however this time. Patriots -34 Giants 24. You have heard it first here.
