Obamacare provisions that go into effect today

As of today, women can get free contraceptives and abortifacients, as well as other goodies that their insurance will have to give them without co-pays to doctors:

Democrats hailed the Aug. 1 introduction of these Affordable Care Act services as a turning point at which the American public would finally grasp the magnitude of healthcare reform.

The new services that will be required to be offered under insurance plans without a co-payment are well-woman visits, gestational diabetes screening, domestic violence screening and counseling, contraception and contraceptive counseling, breastfeeding support and supplies, HPV DNA testings, sexually transmitted infections counseling, and HIV screening and counseling.

Health & Human Services considers “morning after pills,” “week after pills,” and other measures that prevent the embryo from attaching to the womb or that cause expulsion to be “contraceptives.”  For those who believe life begins at conception, that is abortion.  And we are all going to be paying for that, even if your religion forbids it.

Does anyone have the link to the HRSA fact sheet that claims abortifacient drugs will not be covered? I find plenty of references to it but not it, itself.

And if you were against the Iraq war, you’ll be paying for that too.

Is it me, or does it seem ironic that it will cover gestational diabetes screening and breastfeeding support and supplies as well? I know those can be expensive. Does it cover gestational diabetes classes and supplies too? Those are ridiculously expensive. It still seems incongruous that preventing and eliminating babies is covered right along with making sure they are healthy.

fjsteve, I looked on the HRSA website but couldn’t find it. If anyone knows about this or finds a link, please comment. I suspect, though, that this is the difference: There ARE abortifacient drugs that cause the expulsion of the child after several months. The insurance mandate probably doesn’t include those, just as it wouldn’t include free surgical abortions without a copay. But the HRSA classifies “the morning after pill” and the “week after pill” as contraceptives, not abortifacients. Pro-lifers, though, consider those abortifacients too, since they believe life begins at the moment of conception and those pills prevent the fertilized egg from implanting.

    Free stuff! Totally free! Awesome!

Michael B. — the government mandates that you personally purchase weapons to be used in Iraq? Did I miss something?

@DonS. Unless the gov’t is paying for the Iraq was with something other than my tax dollars, then yes.

On another note, I’d love to do a survey on what members of this forum are using as birth control.

    Michael B. @6….contribution to survey.

An old-fashioned diaphragm in my child-bearing years. Never had a “pill” in my life. When I worked in an OB-GYN clinic and patients were coming in requesting IUD devices, one faithful RC physician refused to prescribe them. I wonder if that would be acceptable nowadays?

A LifeNews article, “Catholic Group to Defy New Obamacare Pro-Abortion Mandate,” reports that a pro-life Roman organization, Priests for Life, has announced in a letter that it will defy the pro-abortion mandate under Obamacare that the HHS put in force on August 1. From Priests for Life Director Frank Pavone’s letter:

“I want to make it clear to you today that we will disobey this mandate. Neither Priests for Life as an organization, nor any one of our administrative team or Board of Directors, nor I personally, consent to provide, pay for, advocate, counsel, refer, or in any way tolerate or cooperate with any process, plan, exchange of money or services, or any other activity that would enable a person to engage in the use of abortion-inducing drugs, contraception, or sterilization.”

HHS SWAT teams, a cadre of FBI snipers, canine units, and police armored vehicles are preparing to storm the Priests for Life headquarters momentarily as soon as several Department of Homeland Security tactical squads flood the building HVAC system with tear gas and launch dozens of flash grenades through the building’s windows .

What is your point? Why do you want to see who uses contraceptives?
