Live blogging the VP debate

As we watch and comment upon the Vice Presidential debate, let’s add a drinking game.  Everyone have at hand a beverage of your choice.  (I recommend WATER.  Anything alcoholic and you might not make it to the closing statements.  Anything caffeinated and you may not get to sleep tonight.  Remember that you have to get up in the morning.)  Every time you hear one of the candidates say the following words, take a drink:

(1)  47%

(2)  $5 trillion

(3)  Big Bird

OK.  Let’s get started.  Make your comments as the debate goes along and I’ll do the same.  (Remember to keep refreshing the page so you can follow the thread.)  Gentlemen, start your engines.

They will be at desks. I have found that when you give a speech or make a statement it helps to be standing up at a podium. Desks are for informal conversations. A lot of people think better on their feet than sitting on their, you know. The format may work against the strategy. But we’ll see.

Asking for specifics in disagreements is a good step forward. However, Biden saying that because the media panned a comment by Romney means Romney was wrong is goofy.

Biden: “I mean what I say.” lol

Closing statement: Biden invokes the 47%. (I hope you have something left in your glass.)

This was a 3rd rate debate.

Is this what our country puts forth as its BEST?

Biden’s complaint about time is foolish. He actually had more time that Ryan. I guess he feels he didn’t use his time as well.

We’re told Biden spoke for 41 minutes, 50 seconds; Ryan, 40 minutes, 5 seconds. Listen to the spin, but come to your own conclusions. We’ll discuss them tomorrow! Thanks for your participation, and good night!

I agree @119. I don’t think this will change any minds one way or the other. It might strengthen or afirm someone, but nothing to change a mind.

    MarkB @ 122

Wrong. One mind was changed: I used to think that Joe would have made a better president that did Obama. Even though I disagree politically, I thought he could be more conciliatory. The condescending tone, interruptions, and laughter make me think they’re equally bad leaders.

I think with this debate they’re still stuck in Neutral! (as opposed to Forward). Not a game changer though, Romney has the ball, the lead, and the momentum.

I think raddiz deferred more to biden and asked ryan more pointed and challenging questions. I am an obama supporter.

I think that ryan sounded more canned and rehearsed than Biden.

Now I am listening to the most debate commentators. they are telling us that we will need to wait to see how all this is spinned to know whether biden was rude or biden was winsome. and there is lots of focus on style and nothing really on substance.

the republicans are pushing for the biden was bizzare in his behavior meme.

As an obama and biden supporter I think biden did what he needed to do after the fiasco that was obamas performance. and i really wish biden would have called ryan out as a bald faced liar. lots of misinformation came out of his mouth.
