Conference on gay marriage & gay ministry

Are you familiar with Doxology, the Lutheran institute on pastoral care (as well as care for pastors)?  Led by Rev. Harold Senkbeil (who has written widely on Christian spirituality and who has applied it very effectively as a pastor) and Dr. Beverly Yahnke (the most brilliant and the most reliable Christian psychologist I have ever come across), it is a tremendous resource.

Celibacy & friendship

Wesley Hill is a gay Christian who agrees with the Biblical teachings on homosexuality and is celibate.  He writes for First Things, among other places, and provides a useful perspective on the current controversies about gays and the church.  In a response to the shutting down of Exodus International, he makes the point that the Christian tradition has some rich, practical teaching  about two disciplines that can be of enormous help to gays (as well as non-gays):  celibacy and spiritual friendship (in which same-sex relationships can be fulfilling without being sexual). Exodus International is going out of business

Exodus International, the evangelical ministry to gays that sought to help them change their orientation, has announced that it is going out of business.  The group publicly repented of its advocacy of “reparative therapy” (behavioral conditioning techniques) and of being judgmental against homosexuals.  See this.  After the jump, the statement from the organization.
