Gallup now has some data about same-sex marriage.

According to Gallup’s survey, 10.2% of LGBT adults are married to someone of the same sex.

Interestingly, this is fewer than the number of LGBT adults who are married to someone of the opposite sex: 13.1%.  Gallup says that this is because half of LGBT folks are bisexual!  (What are the implications of that fact?  For pastoral care?  For the same-sex marriage debate?)

Other findings:  Of all LGBT adults who are cohabiting, 61% are married to each other.  The number of domestic partnerships has plummeted to 6.6%.  But the number of gays who are not living with a partner, who consider themselves “single,” has shot up, to 55.7%. [Read more…]

Trump will retain Obama’s LGBT policy

White_House_rainbow_colors_to_celebrate_June_2015_SCOTUS_same-sex_marriage_ruling.jpegAs conservatives are giddy and liberals are panic-stricken over various policies put into place by the new administration, President Trump reminds us that the conventional political lines don’t apply to him.  He has announced that he is keeping in place President Obama’s non-discriminatory policy for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals.

Trump “is the most pro-gay candidate in American electoral history”

Jim Hoft, founder of the Gateway Pundit, a leading conservative blog, has come out publicly as gay.  That was his response to liberals’ defense of Islam after the Orlando shootings.  He believes that Donald Trump, with his tough stance against ISIS and Islamic immigrants and his long-time friendly relationship to gays and their causes, is the best choice for LGBT voters, many of whom (20% according to the latest poll) are rallying to the Trump banner.

Trump’s gay supporters are staging a party at the Republican convention designed to highlight the man who, according to one gay activist, is “the most pro-gay candidate in American electoral history.” [Read more…]

California may require Christian schools to change their teachings

California is considering a bill that would remove the exemption for faith-based colleges and universities from state anti-discrimination laws when it comes to “sexual orientation, gender identity, and religion.”  The measure has already passed the state senate and awaits action from the House.

Gender diversity and language

You thought it was complicated using “non-sexist” pronouns, avoiding the generic “he” for “he or she” or using “they” as a non-gendered singular?  Consider the travails of a binary language in a world of 58 genders. [Read more…]
