Obamacare numbers

A Kaiser study has found that 57% of the 8 million who have signed up for Obamacare were previously uninsured.  Supporters of the Affordable Care Act are hyping that number, since other studies found that only 26% to one-third of the enrollees had been uninsured.  But let’s accept the higher figure and then do the math. Yet another Obamacare problem

Another Obamacare fiasco:

The government may be paying incorrect subsidies to more than 1 million Americans for their health plans in the new federal insurance marketplace and has been unable so far to fix the errors, according to internal documents and three people familiar with the situation. [Read more...]

The 7.1 million who signed up for Obamacare

So 7.1 million Americans signed up for Obamacare, which is being hailed as a great success for the program.  But, you will recall, 6 million Americans already had individual health insurance policies that they lost because of the new law, forcing them to sign up for Obamacare.  The question is, how many Americans have health insurance now who did not have it before?  And how many are still uninusred?  Those crucial numbers we do not know.

The Obamacare deadline is past

If you don’t have health insurance and didn’t sign up for Obamacare, you are in violation of the Affordable Health Care Act!  The administration has been saying that so many people signing up is evidence that people support it.  But it’s the law!  People are supposed to sign up whether they want to or not, which is one reason it’s breeding so much resentment.   News aggregator Matt Drudge is refusing to sign up, saying that instead he’ll pay the penalty in what he is calling the “liberty tax.”

So did any of you sign up without wanting to?  Do you think you are getting a good deal on the insurance?  Are you glad the government made you buy it?  Are any of you refusing to do so, resolving to just pay the “liberty tax”? [Read more...]

Songs about health insurance

In a desperate, last-ditch attempt to get 18-34 year-olds to sign up for Obamacare–those “young invincibles” who are expected to foot the bill for everyone else–the administration and allied independent groups are trying to reach them with comedy routines, cash prizes, and–most humorously of all–songs about health insurance.  After the jump, a link to an article about all of this AND a link to such a song, including its various pop, folk, alternative, techno, dub, and hip-hop versions.

My esteemed 18-34 year-old readers, do you find this kind of insulting? [Read more...]

Few uninsured are signing up for Obamacare

A survey has found that only 1/10th of the uninsured have signed up for Obamacare.  (The deadline is March 31.)  Actual numbers from HealthCare.gov and the insurance companies are hard to come by, due in part to the still-confusing application process.  Also, of those who did sign up, half have not paid the first premium, so they don’t have health insurance either.

If the uninsured don’t buy the insurance, preferring to pay the fine and to go without, the whole concept of Obamacare comes apart. [Read more...]
