Criminalizing pro-lifers

brutality-152819_640In France, it is illegal to attempt to disuade anyone from getting an abortion.  It is also illegal to demonstrate against abortion, to give information about alternatives to abortion, and to espouse the belief that abortion is immoral.  Pro-life expressions could result in a fine of 30,000 euros and two years in jail.

So says Denise Burke, who makes the point that those who once claimed to be “pro-choice” are now “pro-coercion” in seeking to silence and criminalize advocates for life. [Read more…]

The travails of pro-life Democrats

Who do you think said this?

“Wanted or unwanted, I believe that human life, even at its earliest stages, has certain rights which must be recognized — the right to be born, the right to love, the right to grow old. When history looks back at this era it should recognize this generation as one which cared about human beings enough to halt the practice of war, to provide a decent living for every family, and to fulfill its responsibility to its children from the very moment of conception.”

“Our spirituality and abortion are one”

The goal of the “pro-choice” movement used to be to make abortions “legal, safe, and rare.”  But why “rare”?  That implies that there is something wrong with abortion.  Pro-choicers today are now proudly “pro-abortion.”

Sex as sacrament, abortion as religious ritual

More from Mary Eberstadt and her new book, discussing how sex is the sacrament for the new religion and abortion is its sacred ritual.  She  also notes how if abortion proponents were truly “pro-choice,” there would be times for abortion’s  defenders to choose against it, but this never happens.  She also observes that people aren’t losing their jobs for self-publishing books against, say, stealing.  No one gets in trouble for citing the Book of Ruth.  Rather, virtually all of the opposition to Christianity and to religious liberty today derives from Christianity’s opposition to the sexual revolution.

“We did not want her enough”

In an essay about his church’s efforts to battle abortion, Southern Baptist spokesman Russell Moore quoted one of his critics, a Baptist female pastor.  Ten years ago, she wrote about her own abortion and justified it in some of the most evil words you will ever read. [Read more…]

Outrage at Super Bowl Doritos ad for “humanizing fetus”

The pro-abortion group NARAL is outraged at the Super Bowl ad that showed a fetus on ultrasound craving the dad’s Doritos.  The accusation was that the ad used “the antichoice tactic of humanizing fetuses.”

Humanizing fetuses!  What about the pro-abortion tactic of dehumanizing fetuses?  You’ve got to read Russell Moore’s account of the controversy, excerpted and linked after the jump. [Read more…]
