The State of the Union & Mardi Gras

OK, this is rather belated, but still. . . .The quite liberal Dana Milbank takes the prize for best comments on the State of the Union Address:

There is something entirely appropriate about holding the State of the Union address on the same day as Mardi Gras.

One is a display of wretched excess, when giddy and rowdy participants give in to reckless and irresponsible behavior.

The State of the Union

Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET, President of Obama will give his State of the Union address.  He is expected to propose policies and legislative measures to flesh out the ideology set forth in his Inaugural address.  What proposals do you think he will put forward?  (I usually watch these things, but I have a class tonight.  If you want to live blog it, be my guest here.)

I missed the State of the Union address last night.  Listening to it every year is a ritual I try to subject myself to.  Somebody please report.  Did it contain any eloquence, any electric phrases that will go down in history?  Any surprising new policies?    What was the “takeaway” from the President’s State of the Union address?
