President Obama announced an agreement with the European Union that would slap what could be some serious sanctions on Russia, an attempt to punish Vladimir Putin for his aggression in the Ukraine. Europe had resisted imposing sanctions, but the shooting down of the Malaysian airliner has changed its collective mind.

As Vladimir Putin blames Ukraine for shooting down the Malaysian Airliner and conspiracy theorists blame the Illuminati (all those “7s”: A Boeing 777, flight MH-17, on 7/17), the evidence is building that ethnic Russian amateurs were playing with the toys that Moscow had sent to them to disrupt the Ukrainian government.
Also, the Russian separatists who control the area of the crash have removed the bodies and some of the debris, reportedly including the plane’s “black box.” Video has also emerged of anti-aircraft missile batteries being driven back across the Russian border. One of them has a missile missing.

A Malaysia Airline Boeing 777 was shot down over the Ukraine, killing 298 passengers and crew. Most were Dutch and Australian. As many as 23 may have been Americans. [UPDATE: Only one American has been identified.] The plane was reportedly brought down by a Russian anti-aircraft missile, and pro-Russian separatists are being blamed. [Read more…]
In a show of force to counter Russian expansionism in the Ukraine, American troops are deploying in the NATO-member nations of Eastern Europe. Six hundred are now in Poland, and more will arrive in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania on Monday. The units will participate in war games and will be part of a regular rotation. [Read more…]
