Where I Want To Be

Yesterday, I took my young daughters to ride the metro to Washington D.C. As we were standing by the tracks waiting for the train to come, I felt something hit my shoes, and I turned to see a blind man's cane, as he was sweeping it from side to side. He said, “Excuse me,” and walked on, stopping when he felt the raised bumps by the side of the tracks. He stood there, tall and proud, waiting like everyone else for the train. I jumped at the chance to make this a learning experience for my two d … [Read more...]

The Perfect Stranger

It was a very crowded day at the park. My 2-year-old son was playing happily from one end of the park to the other. As he was climbing a small staircase, he happened to slip and bump his knee. Hijab Party

We have sweets and socializing followed by an interactive program. A few sisters demonstrate different ways to tie a headscarf and show how to match them up with outfits. The younger sisters are the models. The girls laugh and giggle as they … [Read more...]

My Kids Never Fail to Surprise Me

The past few weeks have been a huge learning curve for me. Alhamdulilah I was given the opportunity to volunteer teaching little muslims aged 5-7 at a musallah (prayer hall) close by. Being a mother of a 6 year old I found it very relevant to extend my teaching at home to these children and help them understand our deen better. As with anything, we decided to start off with tawheed (oneness of God) and cover all three categories before moving on to other topics.Though I had my 6 year old … [Read more...]
