GrowBaba Spotlight: What’s your bike?

Wives tell us husbands to do so many things that we really don’t believe in or even understand. For a variety of reasons which us husbands are and are not willing to admit, we end up doing most of those things for our women. I can’t answer for all the husbands out there, but my own introspection about the trust my wife and I share lead me to an incident that happened about 3 years into my marriage.I was married young (I was 22 and she was yes, yikes 17 … we are still married 25 years later) a … [Read more...]

Scrambled Eggs, Bubblegum, and Sex

This morning, over a relaxing weekend breakfast of scrambled eggs and tea with his mother and I, my 10-year-old was explaining to us that fourth grade is unlike third grade because now “everyone in fourth grade cusses.” He then added that, “they use all the cuss words like sh-- and a-- but the most common word is the F-word.” After a round of talking about what his own options are in such instances, he naturally then asked, "so what does the F-word mean anyway?" GrowBaba Spotlight: Take Money From Your Kids

I take money from my children. I checked around and others do it too. You should try it. Like it was yesterday, I remember how it felt when my wife and only son (at the time) returned from their first vacation without me… like angels descending from heaven back into my life. I remember and savor these a … [Read more...]

GrowBaba Spotlight: Ticket to Paradise

The day was Sunday April 2, 2006.  It was like any other Sunday, except that it was during the height of tax season, and I was over two hundred miles away from home, in a conference that I did not want to attend, listening to speakers that I did not care to hear. There were only two speeches left before I could finally return home and get back to work.  It was then, at the peak of my boredom, that the penultimate speaker took to the podium. He said that the Prophet Muhammad once saw a man p … [Read more...]

Grow Baba Spotlight: The Visiting Professor

I often feel guilty when it comes to my kids. I know I don’t spend enough time with them.  And when I am with them, I still feel that guilt because despite my initial spike of excitement at seeing them, I realize I don't actually want to spend time with them. I prefer to sit on the couch and surf the web. I mean there is a lot of really important research that needs to be done. Should I get the Galaxy s3 or the iPhone?  And, of course, I need to catch up with my friends on Facebook and see what t … [Read more...]
