Republican wants to impeach Obama over Libya

From Balloon Juice:

Republican Congressman Walter Jones wants to impeach President Obama over his actions in Libya. House Concurrent Resolution 107 is his bill, which begins:

Expressing the sense of Congress that the use of offensive military force by a President without prior and clear authorization of an Act of Congress constitutes an impeachable high crime and misdemeanor under article II, section 4 of the Constitution.

You know, in theory I could get behind this, but I doubt this particular Republican Congressman did much of anything to prevent U.S. involvement in Libya when it was getting started. That’s the problem with saying Congress should impeach Obama–or should’ve impeached Bush–over the crap they’ve pulled: Congress has consistently been complicit in the abuses of power.

Jones needs to have the War Powers Act of 1973 (50 U.S.C. 1541-1548) repealed as of a year ago before he can hope that his impeachment bill will have any legs.
