Making celebrity quote images

The textually inclined will think think they’re kind of silly, and wonder what’s wrong with a good old fashioned and picture-free “quote of the day” post. But including the pic makes them much friendlier to sharing on Facebook, Reddit, and so on. So my question: how to best go about making a celebrity quote image that will actually look good?

Quickmeme, of course, exists, but seems optimized for very short slogans. I’m talking about making images that look more like this one. (And yes, I’m including this partly so that your clicking on this link won’t be wasted if you have no advice for me. Credit: RationalHub):

Gimp is free photo editing software if that’s what you’re after. It’s nearly as powerful as Photoshop, though its interface is pretty different. A quick google search will point you in the direction all manner of tutorials.

I love befunky for this stuff. Easy, free, nothing to download (except your finished image).

Or picmonkey is even more straightforward…
