This is the homepage for my first book, UFOs, Ghosts, and a Rising God: Debunking the Resurrection of Jesus, which I’m letting anyone download for free as an ebook. I also have a second, never-officially-published book project titled, Atheism Wins: The Rise of Popular Atheism and How Religion Lost the Argument, which you can find out more about at that link or an older page.
I’m doing this for two reasons. One is moral: I’ve personally benefited immensely from the huge amount of information other people have made available online, and I feel obligated to pay that back. This is my way of doing that. But the other is that, as Cory Doctorow has argued at length, I’m convinced that it makes good business sense.
Think of this as a pay what you want system, but one where if you want to pay $0, that’s OK and you won’t even have to jump through any hoops to do that. I’m hoping you’ll donate whatever the book is worth to you, whether that’s $1, $5, $20, or more (if you really want to support my writings). But I’ll also be happy if all you do is read it, enjoy it, and tell your friends about it.
Here’s what other people have said about UFOs, Ghosts, and a Rising God:
“A must-read study of the rise of myths, miracles, and legends, exposing the bulwark of fallacies on which Christian apologetics is now built.”
– Richard Carrier, historian
“Very well researched and written. The arguments are very strong. And entertaining, I should add… No doubt many Biblical scholars would consider a close look at claims about ghosts and UFOs to be beneath them; but, actually, these are precisely the sort of claims they need to know more about if they are to have a genuinely balanced view of the historical evidence for the resurrection.”
– Stephen Law, senior lecturer in philosophy at the University of London
“This is the most focused and definitive book that you’ll find putting the detailed case against Jesus’ resurrection.”
– Russell Blackford, philosopher
“A nice compendium of skeptical responses to Christian historical apologetics.”
– Victor Reppert, Christian philosopher and apologist
“A really fun read for anyone who has been exposed to the tactics of Christian apologists.”
– Luke Muehlhauser, Common Sense AtheismDownload links:
This book was originally published a small imprint that has since closed up shop, meaning that new print copies are longer available. I’d like to give a huge thanks to Jeff Cogswell, my editor for the original print edition, without whom this book would have never been published. Another huge thanks to the reader who did the file conversions to e-reader formats.
You can find the Amazon page for the print edition here. If you’re very lucky, one of the used copies there might actually be reasonably priced! If enough people express interest, I may put out a print on demand version in the future.
