Musician records video in wolf sanctuary and the wolves join in the song November 2, 2015

The great thing about the internet is that sometimes something fascinating shows up in your Facebook newsfeed, something that happened a couple of years ago and you’re glad your hearing about it, even if you’re late to the party.

According to the info on the youtube site for videographers Hutch and Futch, while in Colorado on tour in 2013, Shawn James and the Shapeshifters had the chance to record some video in the W.O.L.F. Sanctuary in Laporte, Colorado. While performing a cover of A. A. Bondy’s “American Hearts” – which begins with the lyrics “We were raised by wolves and we are still wild/ and we howl when the troubled wind blows” – Shawn and his band mate Baker had some unexpected back up vocals from the residents of the sanctuary. You can also see the wolves meandering in the background, completely comfortable with the duo and their crew and their  music.

Maybe the wolves recognized a kindred soul. A month before this video was uploaded, Shawn James released, “The Wolf” (February 2014), and then “The Bear” (June 2013) and “The Hawk” (January 2014), EPs filled with orchestral, bluesy and haunting songs.
