Mahashivratri at Isha Yoga Center

Mahashivratri at Isha Yoga Center June 23, 2017

Mahashivarathri is celebrated at Isha Yoga Center each February/March. The special nature of the day and the night of Mahashivarathri presents us with a unique opportunity to make use of the forces of nature for our well-being. Also in the yogic lore this night celebrates the Grace of Shiva, who is considered the Adi Guru (the very first Guru) from whom the yogic tradition originates.

The planetary positions on this night are such that there is a powerful natural upsurge of energy in the human system. If one can stay awake and aware, in a vertical position throughout the night, it brings about physiological and inner transformational benefits which results in one’s well-being. In addition, the benefit of any yogic practices performed on this night multiply manyfold. It is for this reason that in the yogic tradition it is said that one should not sleep on the night of Mahashivarathri.

Given the potentials of this occasion, Mahashivarathri is celebrated with great pomp and vigor at Isha Yoga Center. Over 2.5 million people from India and around the world participate in the unique nightlong gathering and Sathsang with Sadhguru.

The celebrations begin at 6:00 pm with Guru Pooja – paying of obeisance by Sadhguru to the great beings of the past, whose efforts have made available the powerful knowledge of self-transformation. This is followed by a discourse by Sadhguru. Powerful meditations are conducted by Sadhguru throughout the night, interspersed with lively and colorful cultural programs. Cultural programs include performances by world renowned classical and contemporary musicians and artistes.
