John 11: The Resurrection and the Life

John 11: The Resurrection and the Life April 21, 2011

When Jesus arrived at the home of Lazarus, he made a bold claim, stating, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”

Jesus claimed to be the resurrection and the life and to offer eternal life. The only one who could do this was the Messiah.

Many had claimed to be Messiah in the past. The difference was that Jesus would prove it. How? By restoring Lazarus to life.

Lazarus had been in the grave four days. When Jesus asked for the stone to be moved from the door of the tomb, those standing there opposed the idea, claiming that the body would be decomposing and stink. But Jesus persisted, and Lazarus walked out.

The eyewitnesses were stunned. Jesus had shown evidence that he truly was the resurrection and the life.

Shortly after this event, Jesus himself would be put to death and have his own body placed in a sealed tomb behind a large stone. This time, on the third day, he would return to life. Eyewitnesses would again be amazed and spread his message throughout nations and history of the man who walked from the grave named Jesus.

Jesus is the resurrection and the life.
