I've had a startling revelation--I'm conservative. At least, the elements of my life reflect conservative values. I am married to a partner of opposite sex. He is my first spouse, and the father of both our children. We have 2.5 kids--meaning, two kids and a really sweet dog. We have very little debt. Heck, we don't even have a car payment. We don't have cable. One parent stays home with the children full-time. We do not let our kids watch inapproprate television, nor do we expose them to music … [Read more...]
How God Gets Stuff Done
Other people have said it--have been saying all week--but it bears repeating: God does not 'intend' rape. Ever. Are we really having this conversation, America? Abortion is bad, m'k? We are all in agreement on this, whatever you may think of those who advocate for choice. I have another post with my thoughts on life , if you want to go there. But for now, let's reflect on the appalling truth that a man like Richard Mourdock (did you know who he was before yesterday? me neither) can use the … [Read more...]
Primetime Throwdown (yes, Brian Williams just said ‘throwdown…’)
It was a long night. I went to sleep at a decent hour, then woke up at a distinctly INdecent hour, and lay awake until right around the time my kids started stirring. Isn't that always the way... Normally, I'd attribute my nocturnal twitchiness to some ill-advised afternoon coffee, or a pressing deadline. But no. I woke up in the middle of the night, rehashing the presidential debate; and in my sleep-deprived mind, it sounded something like this: 'did not.' 'did too.' 'nuh-uh.' 'yes-huh.' … [Read more...]
The Faulty Filter

I don't understand much about phishing scams, or how the low-lives who run them turn a profit, or why the whole scene is named after a pretty great band. But I do know that my officeLive account has been vulnerable to attacks on numerous occasion, and every time it happens, i get more and more junk. I also know that i can mark something as 'junk mail,' and it still finds a way to creep into my inbox. The 'senders' always manage to find someway to disguise the source just enough so that my … [Read more...]
The Sacred Struggle
I was cooking dinner and trying not to get sucked in. It is only September. Of the year BEFORE the election year. I am not ready for the emotional angst, the loaded sermon fodder, the toxic wasteland that is partisan rhetoric. It was on in the background, but I was determined not to engage. When I heard the applause, I turned around. I'm listening now, i thought numbly. I looked to see if I'd really heard what I'd just heard. My husband and I looked at each other, appalled. "Rewind that," I … [Read more...]
Stop Making Me Look So Hot!

HOWEVER--it's not like they caught her with her mouth full, or snuck up while she was bending over at an unflattering angle (my dad's favorite way to take a picture, thanks). This is kind of a "what do you mean, this is just my face," face. "The Queen of Rage" might be a little hyperbolic, but let's just be honest... that's what she's selling. And these days, rage sells. Crazy gets votes. I shudder to think of the carnage that will be found along the campaign trail, come hindsight 2012. It is … [Read more...]
