Lullabies

Lullabies May 2, 2015

Usually they involved a lot of worship, prayer and time for people to share what God had done in their hearts. At the end of the night, we would all gather together in a tight circle, arms around each other, and dedicate the night to the Lord. Giving thanks. Praising Him. And my youth pastor would lead us in two songs: “I Exalt Thee” and “I Love You Lord”.

Shortly after having Kinsley, I started to sing to her to help her fall asleep, like most of you mom’s I’m sure. But I definitely take after my dad in the singing department, in that we can only remember one line of any song! So I racked my brain for some song that I knew by heart, because 5 words can only get you so far.

These two songs immediately came to mind. After all those special nights, these songs are imbedded into my heart. They resonate with my soul and I know they will forever be apart of me.

Tonight as I rocked Kinsley to bed, her head on my chest, all cuddly and me never wanting this moment to end, I sang her “I Love You Lord.” But I realized that I wasn’t really singing it to her, but to Jesus. As I look back on this past year with Kins, and all the times I’ve sang this song, I am reminded of how truly close Jesus has been. Faithful. Present. And how I am longing to make my life a song to Him. To worship and give thanks.

Through the ugly and hard and messy and mundane and good and sweet and “pinch me” moments.

Along with that, I also so long for Kinsley to know and love and walk with Jesus. To be close to Him. To not just know about Him, but know Him. To abide in Him and rest in Him and rejoice in Him. To be His and to one day, sing songs of worship to her Savior, over her children.

I love you Lord

And I lift my voice.

To worship You,

O my soul, rejoice.

 Take joy my King

In what You hear.

May it be a sweet,

sweet sound in your ear.
