The Whole Woman Series: Jory Micah & Breaking The Glass Steeple

The Whole Woman Series: Jory Micah & Breaking The Glass Steeple February 26, 2017

Anyone who’s been in a capital-E Evangelical church for any amount of time knows that women often take a secondary role to men. Men lead; women serve. Even when highly qualified women serve in leadership capacities, they are called directors, not pastors. There is an unwritten rule that even if a woman is in charge, not really.

It’s also true that women who call this reality out are often chastised. I’m no exception. I’ve had some of those back-office conversations in which it was explained to me that women are women and men are men and sure women can lead but never once in those organizations did I ever come across a women who was called a pastor. What I found instead were women who were given all the roles and tasks and responsibilities of a pastor, called a director, and was still expected to answer the phones when the receptionist had a sick day, even if there was a male intern in the creative office.

Huh.

It’s frustrating and annoying and utterly exhausting to always have to be fighting this fight, and I’m not even a pastor (or even a wanna be pastor. I don’t think, anyway). But this whole women can’t teach men thing is getting old. There’s one super smart woman who is taking on the glass steeple and working hard to break it. I’m SO excited to tell you that Jory Micah will be sharing her courageous story at The Whole Woman Summit.

JoryMicahJory is an advocate for gender equality in and outside the church, and she will tell the moving story of her quest to become a church minister and the obstacles she faced in that gender-polarizing institution. She’ll share what it’s like to discover courage, to face systemic injustice and chase down your dreams regardless of what others think.

This talk will motivate any woman who’s ever been told she can’t do something, felt pigeon-holed, and silenced. After Jory’s talk, women will feel empowered, encouraged and equipped to take focused action toward their dreams.

See you at the Summit!

The Whole Woman SummitEach Friday for the next few months, I’ll be writing about one of the amazing women who are speaking at The Whole Woman Summit in March. These are women who are movers and shakers, Christian and not, who are doing very cool things in the world. The summit is all about the things that matter — MIND. BODY. SPIRIT. WORK. RELATIONSHIPS. JUSTICE. The summit is entirely online, and all registrants will receive video recordings of all sessions, so no worries if you miss any.

See you at the summit!
