Revisiting the World of the Apostles

Revisiting the World of the Apostles September 2, 2014

This is one of the most exciting opportunities I’ve had in my academic career — I’ve not been to the sites of Paul’s journeys and churches or those of the apostle John. Why not get a group at your church to think about this two-week “cruise” through the world of Paul and John?

Northern Seminary is sponsoring a tour to Turkey and Greece to visit the sits of the apostles Paul and John. And I can to be the lead teacher. Our tour will be nearly two weeks long and we will visit major cities and sites. The tour also will include a marvelous stop at none other than Santorini, that lovely Greek island, and we will have daily Bible studies and devotionals.

I have never been to Greece or Turkey, so this is a highlight tour for me and I’m already plotting the teaching sessions. We will also have daily special teaching sessions from a Chicagoland pastor (Eric Camfield, from Christ Church Oakbrook).

We are giving those interested plenty of lead time, keeping the tour to one dimension of Bible times (the apostles in their missionary work), and praying we will find groups from churches to explore the Bible in its original setting.

Exploring the First Century Church

Follow the footsteps of Paul and John through Turkey and Greece.

June 19 – July 1, 2016

During this 13 day contextual tour we will visit over 15 historical sites including Istanbul, Nicaea, Hierapolis, Laodicea, Colossae, Ephesus, Patmos, Crete, Athens, Corinth, Cenchreae, Thessalonica, Philippi, Kavala, and more!

Imagine standing where Paul stood while preaching to the Phillipians or walking the same road that John walked into Ephesus. On this life changing tour participants will experience the first century church in a whole new way. The tour will be led by Scot McKnight in partnership with local tour guides and experts.

The entire program cost including airfare, travel, lodging, and food is $5,109. To help meet this cost, we encourage participants to raise support through their church, their family, and their friends. In addition to these great supporters, participants may also find fundraising resources like http://www.gofundme.com/ to be very beneficial.
