Pope Francis: I have a question for you.

Pope Francis: I have a question for you. June 1, 2015

Pope Francis, a clip and then I have a question for him:

“I feel like saying something that may sound controversial, or even heretical, perhaps,” he [Pope Francis] added. “But there is someone who ‘knows’ that, despite our differences, we are one. It is he who is persecuting us. It is he who is persecuting Christians today, he who is anointing us with (the blood of) martyrdom.”

Francis added that the devil “knows that Christians are disciples of Christ, that they are one, that they are brothers! He doesn’t care if they are Evangelicals or Orthodox, Lutherans, Catholics or Apostolic … he doesn’t care! They are Christians.”

The Roman Catholic Church leader insisted that “division is a wound in the body of the church of Christ. And we do not want this wound to remain open,” he said, urging for Christians to seek unity together and pray for one another.

By the way, I totally agree we are one and we should visibly express that unity. And I agree that the father of lies wants disunity and I also believe that systemic forces keep us away from one another, but Pope Francis, I have a question:

My Question: Will you serve me the bread and wine in your church?

Let’s start right there, and that would be a Grand Step in the direction of unity.

This is not at all cheeky, but a genuine question. Of all the places where there should be no disunity or division it is at the Table of the Lord. We can begin right there.

I have a vision for a public service: the top leader of major Christian groups gather at the Vatican. The Pope first serves bread and wine to each and then the Pope receives the bread and wine from each. At the Table we can become one.
