About blogging… I saw a post with TSK last week, and it worried me. It stated that too much posting is not good. Well, I’m guilty. Here’s what I try to do when I can keep it up: first, I like to record thoughts on some biblical text (I’m a Bible teacher, after all). Second, I try to have a more “let’s think together” series going on when I can come up with an idea. Some work; some don’t. Third,... Read more

Here are two pictures from the Piemonte region. The first is the grocer who took care of us in every way, telling us which shops to visit and what kind of wines to purchase. On top of that, her two daughters made us lunch. And, now for the drumroll… look to the bottom right. The people are tasting wine from a local shop, and they eat along with it raw hamburger and lettuce. No kidding. |inline Read more

While in the Ligurian area of Italy, we learned how good basil (basilico) pestos can be. So, it was my intent when we returned to learn how to make a pesto properly, to good taste, and to learn how to use it with pasta and risotto. Monday I made a basil pasta, with an Italian pasta called Trofie, and tonight I made a risotto with basil. Here’s a picture. Perhaps this would make even an Italian cook say, “Not bad... Read more

This has been a stimulating week for me in looking at this age-old question: Was Mary perpetually virginal? Today I want to look at three pieces of biblical evidence on this question, sorting out what can be known from what can’t be known, and then drawing a conclusion. |inline Read more

Kris and I have had three meals with Ira Rounsaville‘s sauce, and we have to give it our heartiest recommendation, and I want to pass it on to you. Ira, if you remember, was at The Emmaus Community church where we were last Sunday. If you are interested in spicing up some fish, or some beef, or some chicken, or anything else on your barbecue, then this is lip-smackin’ good sauce. I marinated some Orange Roughy fish Wednesday, tossed it... Read more

Romans 4:9-12 showed that circumcision came along after faith. Now Paul equates the circumcision of those verses with the “Law” (4:13). Law creates its own world as can be seen in this: |inline Read more

When I opened J. Frye’s Jesus the Pastor Wednesday evening for the next reading, I sighed because it was about “spiritual disciplines.” I remember the days when no one, and I mean no one I knew of, had ever heard such language. Then Richard Foster wrote his major book, Celebration of Discipline, and poof! everyone knew what they were and thought they were the next best thing for the Christian life. Everyone seems to have a theory of the spiritual... Read more
