Practical Magic

After last night’s blog about the need to maintain spiritual practice especially during difficult times, I have to post this.

In addition to my rather brief evening prayers, I did a little energy work last night. Ground, center, connect with the Earth below and the Sky above. Draw in energy, store some, use most of it on a basic shielding exercise. I use a version taught by OBOD, but it’s the same basic technique used by just about every Pagan, Wiccan, or Western Mystery Tradition practitioner I’ve come across. I went to bed feeling… safe.

I had two meetings today I was dreading (and I quit dreading meetings a long time ago) – both with people I expected to rant and rave about the general state of affairs. But the first was very professional and the second was almost friendly (almost).

Now, I was prepared (in the mundane sense of the term) for both meetings – I had my stuff together. But I’ve had my stuff together lots of times recently and still had people fly off the handle. Maybe I just caught these people on a good day, or maybe they’re tired of yelling, or maybe they realized all the ranting hadn’t made things better so they’d try something else. Maybe.

Or maybe, the magic worked.

Off to do some more energy work…

About John Beckett

I’m a Druid in the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. I’m an ordained priest in the Universal Gnostic Fellowship. I’m the Coordinating Officer of the Denton, Texas Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. This year I’m also serving as a member of the Board of Trustees of CUUPS National. I’m a member of the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

I write as a spiritual practice. It helps me organize my thoughts and work through ideas and concepts. It helps me evaluate my beliefs and practices against my core values and against what I know (or at least, what I think I know) to be true. It helps me interpret my experiences (religious and otherwise) in ways that are both meaningful and honest.
