An Important Change for ThruWay Christians

I’ve made an important change to the opening of the ThruWay Christians founding document. In its entirety it now reads like this:

We are Christians who embrace both the conservative Christian’s belief in and fidelity to the core message of the Gospels, and the liberal Christian’s dedication to inclusiveness and social justice.

Rather than continuing to choose between these two roads, we hereby establish the following, which we recognize and affirm as a thruway running between them.

Then it goes on to the sixteen ThruWay Christian tenets.

I excised from the opening the statement about finding liberal/progressive theology too tenuous, and conservative theology too (basically) mean-spirited. I find this more affirming.

Thanks to all who are doing such a wonderful job of getting out into the world this understanding of Christianity, the future of which is … well, now.

First, what do we mean by “core message of the gospels?” And based on that description/definition, might there a possible conflct with Tenet #3?
