So we’re hereby officially totally announcing that Unfundamentalist Christians is the new name for the group formerly known as ThruWay Christians.
If you’re one of the 1,800 or so people who liked/joined the rapidly growing ThruWay Christians Facebook page, we invite you to now like/join our new Facebook page, Unfundamentalist Christians.
Sorry for any inconvenience. But deciding to concentrate our community on Facebook necessitated losing the name ThruWay. The primary means by which people learn of a Facebook page is through its name alone, and ThruWay is simply not a name descriptive enough: it’s an entirely neutral word that conveys nothing at all informational.
And while we understand that it’s rarely ideal to describe oneself in the negative, in this particular case who we are not is of paramount importance. We’re offering a fairly radical alternative to a dominant, dynamic, historically authoritative, ubiquitous cultural paradigm. We do exist in opposition. There’s nothing wrong with being clear about that—as is, say, the Anti-Defamation League, or any of the many anti-poverty organizations. There’s nothing negative about presenting an alternative to negativity.
And we’re not anti-fundamentalists. We’re just … unfundamentalists.
Bottom line? No two words comes even close to more comprehensively capturing who we are than does Unfundamentalist Christians. But if you happen to think of any such words, please do let us know.
If you believe in the tenets of Unfundamentalist Christians—or simply want to show your support for those of us who do—please share the link to its FB page on your own FB wall, and encourage your friends to also join and link to us. Thank you.
Here’s to changing the world in the only way it ever does change: by one new friend at a time.
