Welcome to the World “Judah Danger Storment”

Welcome to the World “Judah Danger Storment” September 29, 2016

My favorite author for the past few years has been G.K. Chesterton. He lived over 100 years ago in England, wrote voraciously and laughed a lot.

In fact, the reason I love his writings is because they make me happy. Chesterton has a way of seeing the world with wonder and awe and humility.

And that brings me to yesterday.

When my wife gave birth to our fifth (and final) child Judah Danger Storment.

It’s easy after a while to take life for granted, and stop paying attention to or giving thanks for each breath that we take…we stop experiencing it as the gift that it really is. And this G.K. Chesterton says is what babies teach us.IMG_5863

They remind us to be in awe of the world. Chesterton thought that we should never stop being filled with wonder when it comes to babies, because “each time a baby is born, it is as if a whole new world has been created, because the world is being seen for the first time by a new soul as if it were the first day of creation; inside that little head, there is a new system of stars, new grass, new cities, a new sea.”

Yesterday evening around 6:30 Leslie and I welcomed Judah Danger Storment into this world, then quickly I went home and got our other (suddenly giant) kids and let them be the disruptive force of nature a wonderful greeting party who could fight over who got to hold him first eagerly accept their new baby brother.

Last night, watching all of our kids in that little hospital room, it kept washing over me that I’ve got a better life than I deserve, and if I killed over and died tomorrow I’ve already gone over the amount of joy anyone should have in a lifetime.IMG_5860

And since names matter to us, I want to tell our new little guy why we chose the name we did.

Judah, we thought long and hard about what your name should be and we chose yours with a purpose.

Your name means Praise (which means you are literally a praise baby) but that’s not the reason we picked your name.  The reason you’re named Judah is because of a story. It’s a story in the Bible that goes almost back to the very beginning.

It’s a story of a man who lives both a scandalous and noble life, and it’s one of our favorite stories in the Bible.

It’s a story about how God chooses the underdogs and rascals to save the world. It’s a story about how someone can change the world around them by taking responsibility for someone else and killing their own pride when they can recognize it.

It’s a story we plan on telling you often.DSC_0036

We’re so grateful that you here and we want you to know how much your family already loves you. You’ve got grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins that can’t wait to meet you.

You are very loved little buddy.

Welcome to the world and welcome to the family.

P.S. Judah, as for your other name…All I can say is you’re welcome.

For your entire life, you will never have a problem starting a conversation, and we have a hunch you’re going to have one exciting life.

After all, your middle name is Danger.
