BREAKING: Multiple Fatalities in Charleston Church Shooting

BREAKING: Multiple Fatalities in Charleston Church Shooting June 17, 2015

Police car with emergency lights onA number of people have died this evening, victims of a shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina. Early reports from CNN indicate that there are “multiple fatalities” inside the church, and that several bodies have not yet been identified. Police are on the scene, and coroners’ vans are staging nearby, preparing to transport the victims.

The shooting took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, a historic African-American church which calls itself the “oldest AME church in the South.”

Early reports are that the shooter, who remains at large, is a clean-shaven, slender white man in his 20s, who is wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and boots. Police helicopters are circling the area, and police are asking that anyone with information about the shooting call 911 dispatchers.

No further information about what led to the shootings has been released.

Please join with me in prayer for the victims and their families, for the police who are investigating this case, and for the shooter himself–that he will repent of his crime and turn himself in to authorities without incident.
