A JUXTAPOSITION OF SYMBOLS: Keep Your Sacrifices Secret. And Plaster Ashes All Over Your Face.

It’s kinda funny.  In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus warns us against doing good in order to be seen.  He gives us three examples: Almsgiving – “When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others.
