International Women’s Day: Recommended Reading

International Women’s Day: Recommended Reading March 8, 2018

March 8 has become known as International Women’s Day, a focal point within Women’s History Month (March). The movement to acknowledge women’s contributions to American history gained momentum in the 1970s, when President Jimmy Carter instituted these commemorative days. Today, women occupy congressional offices, run for President, lead international governments, and make headlines for their support of the #metoo movement. They are not willing to be ignored or sidelined by historically male powerbrokers of our society.

Since I have no desire to get political, let’s get literary and biblical! In honor of our society’s special focus on women today, I want to highlight a few women of the Bible and of history whom, I believe, everyone should know, read, and/or emulate. (Note: See my word, few. This cannot possibly be an exhaustive list. Just whetting your appetite and giving you a few ideas for your next library search.)
