Be Careful What You Say in Private

I'm a NBA fan. This week, the NBA (National Basketball Association) had its worst crisis in decades. Billionaire Donald Sterling, owner of the Los Angeles Clippers NBA team, was punished drastically for making some private, disparaging remarks about people of color, specifically African-Americans and Latinos. Yet he makes mucho money as an NBA team owner, in which African-Americans constitute nearly 85% of all NBA players. Plus, his coach is well-liked African-American Doc Rivers.American … [Read more...]

Hamas Should Now Rename “Palestine” According to Antiquity

A significant event happened this week concerning the never-ending Israeli-Palestinians conflict. On Wednesday, Fatah, which leads the Palestinian National Authority (PA), and Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, signed a reconciliation agreement to join forces within the next five weeks in forming a national unity government. If it happens, it will be a big deal that will substantially change the landscape in this conflict. For one thing, it will cause the U.S. to rethink it foreign aid to … [Read more...]

Did Jesus Indicate He Was God to the Rich Young Ruler?

Many people know about Jesus saying to a rich young man, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God” (Mark 10.25). The man elicited this remark from Jesus by addressing him as “Good Teacher” (v. 17). Jesus replied, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone” (v. 18).In the past, church fathers and many subsequent traditionalist Christians (believe Jesus is God) have insisted Jesus here implied he was God. Their ob … [Read more...]

Is Jesus God? A Brief Look at the Main Bible Verses

Ever since the 4th century, the institutional church has always officially proclaimed that Jesus of Nazareth was and is fully God, and it has usually added that anyone who denies this is not a genuine Christ. Yet in Jesus’ gospel sayings in the New Testament (NT), he never claims to be God. The few NT texts the institutional church has cited in asserting that Jesus is God are mistranslated or misinterpreted, partly because most of them have grammatical difficulties. Let’s briefly examine these te … [Read more...]

Bubba Watson Wins the Masters Again

Yesterday, PGA Tour pro golfer Bubba Watson won the Masters again. It was his second Masters victory in the past three years. He is 33 years old, handsome with brown hair, stands six feet, three inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds. So, he is tall and slender for golf. And he seems to have long arms, which gives him a wide arc for hitting long. And, like Phil Mickelson, Bubba plays golf left-handed. Bubba Watson has now won seven tournaments on the PGA Tour in eight years of competition … [Read more...]

Masters Week with No Tiger

It's Masters Week, and the Tiger won't be on the prowl. Still the #1 golfer in the world, Tiger Woods had microdiscectomy surgery in his lower back on March 31st this year. He's having to be immobilized for two weeks. Recovery from this type off surgery is 3 to 6 months. I don't think Tiger will be playing in the U.S. Open, which is in June. He shouldn't push it. Take it easy.Dr. Robert Watkins performed the surgery. For the past 25-30 years, Watkins has been generally regarded as the best … [Read more...]

Are We Doing Enough About Islamic Suicide Bombers?

The USA began the 21th century with what it called a “War on Terrorism.” It’s still going on. In fact, much of the world is involved in this War on Terrorism. Strangely, this war is not between nations, and its insurgents sometimes are difficult to identify. Much of this war arguably represents a clash of civilizations. Many of those who are instigating it are fundamentalist Muslims, called “Islamists.” By means of armed force they are trying to overthrow Middle Eastern governments to establish I … [Read more...]
