North Korea’s Growing Nuclear Capability Is Worrisome September 16, 2016

North Korea is led by young Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un. He and other North Korean leaders rule the nation unmercifully as a militant state. Its ally, China, and the UN supplies North Korea with foodstuffs because of periods of starvation in that country. Kim John-un makes very hostile threats directed to South Korea and its ally, the U.S., but sometimes also toward Japan.

Even though North Korea is a very poor country, with a population of only 25 million, against United Nations resolutions and treaties it just detonated its fifth nuclear test on September 9 this year. When it does so, the warhead on a missile is shot out into the nearby sea, once landing near Japan. North Korea does not have the rocket capability of sending nuclear missiles that attack the U.S., thousands of miles away. But it is working on it, so that that is its goal. For, North Korea makes many belligerent threats, especially directed to the U.S. North Korea even claims to have a hydrogen bomb, though many experts deny this.

North Korea and South Korea are the result of the Korean War that ended in 1973. The U.S. had committed many forces to aid southern Korean in that war because the north had become communistic. After the war, the two Koreas never signed a peace agreement. Theoretically, they are still at war. The U.S. keeps 40,000 troops in the de-militarized zone (DMZ) that separates the two states.

Due to North Korea now having detonated five nuclear blasts, just the other day the U.S. sent two supersonic jets to South Korea. These jets are capable of dropping nuclear bombs on North Korea. The U.S. has never sent this type of aircraft to South Korea. IMO, this U.S. decision has been flying below the radar in the U.S. news media.

There have been two nuclear rogue states in recent years that are quite hostile to the U.S.: North Korea and Iran. The U.S. and its allies recently signed a nuclear agreement with Iran that has been quite controversial here in the U.S. In this agreement, Iran committed to developing nuclear power only to aid its energy requirements.

I like to read the Arizona Republic’s editorial columnist Robert Robb. He’s a serious and intelligent guy who does his research and often writes about international affairs. His op-ed today is entitled “It’s time to get serious about North Korea’s nuclear threat.” And he’s certainly no war monger. Yet he says in this piece, “The United States should use its missile-defense capabilities to shoot down anything North Korea sends up. It should be our policy to ensure that North Korea never learns whether its missile technology works and whether it, indeed, has the capability of hitting the United States.”

I think this makes sense. But I didn’t think it would have been wise for the U.S. to bomb Iran in an effort to try to destroy its nuclear facilities, which no one knew for certain was producing in nuclear weapons. Yet that question was argued a lot here in the U.S. media, especially since Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for such action and tried to convince the U.S. Congress of it.

I believe Bible prophecy indicates that there is going to come a time when the world will disarm itself of not only all nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, but all modern weapons as well. And I mean during this age, although it could happen many decades from now or even into the next century. I don’t know when it’s going to happen, but it’s going to happen, that is, if you believe the Bible. Of course, the only way it can happen is for technology to become so developed that foolproof verification systems would be installed.

Thus, all wars thereafter will be fought with only primitive weapons such as swords, spears, bows and arrows, clubs, etc. See two of my posts on this on 4/19/13 entitled Someday No More Guns and on 12/30/14 entitled “Nuclear Disarmament Goes to World Court.” The foremost biblical prophecy that indicates such a world disarmament is Ezekiel 38-39. It is the so-called Armageddon (a misnomer) at the end of the age that is predicted in Revelation 16.14-16 and other texts.

I hope humans wise up and realize that such advanced weaponry that nations keep developing for national defense is so insane that they will agree to do the opposite and disarm without being forced to do so due to the horrible consequences of nuclear conflict. But I’m doubtful. I think its very possible it will take a devastating nuclear war to cause such world disarmament. That is so frightening I hate to say it. The biggest problem in the world for the last seventy years has been unquestionably atomic and nuclear weapons.

So, the Doomsday Clock is ticking. Scientists recently moved it to only three minutes to midnight. This metaphorical clock was created by scientists in 1947, soon after the two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan that ended WWII. Since then, the Doomsday Clock has only been set closer to midnight one time, and it was two minutes to midnight during the height of the Cold War. Troubling times.
