Is Donald Trump Hurting the U.S.G.A.? October 14, 2016

TrumpNationalGolfClubBedminsterTrump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, is scheduled to host the U.S. Women’s Open golf championship next summer, on July 13-16. This premier event in women’s golf is produced by the United States Golf Association (U.S.G.A.). And this exclusive, private golf facility is owned and operated by The Trump Organization. Since one week ago–when The Washington Post released a 2005 audio-video that was shown on television that day in which Donald Trump made provocative comments about his groping women without their consent, which is a crime–such a prominent women’s sporting event and Donald Trump do not mix.

One of the golf courses at this 36-hole Trump National Golf Club at Bedminster is rated in the top 100 U.S. golf courses by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. The two courses were designed by the famed Fazio-duo architects. Memberships at this 36-hole golf club sell for $300,000.

Members at Trump National Golf Club at Bedminster include former U.S. president Bill Clinton and former New York City major Rudy Giuliani. The latter is now the foremost supporter of Donald Trump in his campaign for the U.S. presidency against Hilary Clinton. And Trump is responding to allegations about his sexual improprieties by constantly attacking verbally Hilary’s husband Bill Clinton. Trump even had four women, who have alleged that Bill Clinton sexually assaulted them, sit on a front row in the second debate between him and Hilary last Sunday. When Trump said this week that Bill Clinton has said far worse to him about his sexual advances on women while Bill and Donald have played golf together, I suspect it occurred at this golf facility in Bedminster.

Incidentally, Donald Trump’s beautiful daughter Ivanka and her Orthodox Jewish husband Jared Kushner, both of whom are prominent workers in Trump’s presidential campaign, were married at this Trump National golf facility. (Donald Trump owns other Trump National Golf Clubs.)

Now that several women have come forth this week and accused Donald Trump of sexual aggression toward them–which is similar to what he said on the 2005 video that he does to women, and Trump’s political campaign is reeling yet he is undertaking a verbal assault against these women, accusing them of lying–the U.S.G.A. may be forced to withdraw its commitment to hold this golf tournament at this Trump golf facility. It would be a loss for the U.S.G.A. since this Trump National venue is a 45-minute drive from New York City and only a 10-minute drive to U.S.G.A. offices in Far Hills, New Jersey.

The PGA Tour has already severed its relationship with Donald Trump, months before this blowup. On June 1st, the PGA Tour announced that it would no longer hold its Miami tournament at Trump National Doral Miami. That tournament has been staged there for the past 52 years, mostly when it was the Doral Country Club. It was one of my favorite tournaments on the Tour; I competed in it about fifteen times. The Tour seems to have sent a message to Trump when it simultaneously announced that this tournament would be played next year in Mexico City. How so? Donald Trump’s main campaign promise is that if he attains the White House, he is going to build a fifty-foot tall wall on the entire 2,000-mile long border between the U.S. and Mexico to stop illegal immigration.
