What Christians and Jews Believe of Each Other about the Last Days

The Bible has much prophetic data about what religious Jews call "the end of days" and Christians call "the last days" or "the end times." Many Christians believe that during the last days a very significant "remnant" of Jews will repent towards God and believe Jesus of Nazareth was a great prophet and perhaps Israel's Messiah. (On this see Chapter Three: The Remnant" in my book entitled Warrior from Heaven.)Actually, this Jewish belief has already partially begun. It began with Reformed … [Read more...]

Is Jesus God or Subordinate to God?

The church doctrine of the Trinity says God is one essence existing as three co-equal and co-eternal Persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. But the New Testament (NT) repeatedly describes Jesus as subordinate to God to Father, which seems to conflict with them being equal. Some scholars label this a paradox. Raymond E. Brown acknowledges that “even in the New Testament works that speak of Jesus as God, there are also passages that seem to militate against such a u … [Read more...]

Who Is the God of Heaven?

The Old Testament has the expression "the God of heaven" twenty-one times. In six of these instances, this expression is preceded by God's name YHWH/YHVH. It is translated in English versions, "the LORD, the God of heaven." Thus, we can be pretty sure that in the other fifteen expressions that don't have God's name accompanying them, the authors meant that "the God of heaven" is YHWH/YHVH, which scholars usually translate Yahweh/Yehvah. (YHWH/YHVH is traditionally translated "LORD." One issue is … [Read more...]

What Is the Subordination of the Son?

A new debate is heating up among Trinitarian Christians concerning the subordination of the Son, Jesus Christ, to God the Father and whether or not there is a similar relationship between men and women as taught in the Bible.  Egalitarians believe the Bible teaches an equality between men and women regarding human rights whereas Complementarians believe men have a superior function to women in certain areas of life and thus do not believe that women have all the same rights as men do. This d … [Read more...]

Is the Beginning of Christianity the Trinity?

Dr. Francis A. Schaeffer (1912-1984) was an American Evangelical theologian and Presbyterian pastor most known for establishing L'Abri Fellowship in Huémoz-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. He and his wife Edith began this ministry by taking young people into their home and personally discipling them about how to live a Christian life and have a positive effect on the world in doing so. Both Francis and Edith were authors of Christian books. Francis' most successful book is entitled, How Should We Then … [Read more...]

Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Campbell on the Trinity

Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the USA, and Alexander Campbell, co-founder of the Christian Restoration Movement that divided into the Christian Church denomination (my mother's church) and the Church of Christ denomination, were contemporaries from the State of Virginia. Both men were opposed to the historic church teaching of the doctrine of the Trinity. The following are two statements by them taken from http://www.leroygarrett.org/ac_tj/chap04.htm.Thomas Jefferson: "When we … [Read more...]
