Jimmy Walker Wins His First Major Golf Championship

Yesterday, Jimmy Walker--a slender, 6 foot 2 inch, 37-year old, Baylor graduate, and bearded native Texan--won his first major, the PGA Championship. It was the last of the four majors this year and was held at the famed Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey. To do so, Jimmy defeated defending champion and #1 world player Jason Day by one stroke. He then lifted the 37-pound, crystal, Wanamaker trophy at the end of a grueling and tense day of golf. The tournament had been plagued with … [Read more...]

Jason Day Wins the 2016 Players Championship

Number 1 pro golfer in the world, Jason Day, continued his four-stroke lead to the clubhouse today to win the Players Championship wire-to-wire. That means he led all the way from the start of the tournament to the finish. The first round he posted a 63, nine under par 72, which tied the course record. The second round he shot 66 for a tournament record of 129 for the first two rounds. Day Three of the 2016 PGA Tour Players Championship

Jason Day continued his fine play today, finishing the third round of the Players Championship with a four shot lead. But it wasn't easy. He made two double bogeys the front nine. But the long hitter hung in there. For example, he hit three wood and eight iron to the 536 yard, par five, 16th hole, with over half of the green surrounded by water. But he missed his eight foot eagle putt to still register a birdie. The golf course completely changed from the first two days of play. Even though … [Read more...]

Second Day of 2016 PGA Tour Players Championship

Today was the second round of the PGA Tour's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course) in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, the home of the headquarters of the PGA Tour. This very full field tournament is regarded by the players and media as having the strongest field every year of any pro tournament in the world. Thus, many consider it the ad hoc fifth major. Early inclement weather today caused a temporary delay that led to the round being unfinished due to darkness. The following are … [Read more...]

Pro Golf Is in Good, Young Hands

I was glad for Jason Day on Sunday when he won the PGA Championship by three strokes. It was his first time to win one of the four majors in international professional golf: the Masters in April, U.S. Open in June, British Open in July, and the U.S. PGA Championship in August. It surely capped off one of the most exciting years for the four majors in the history of professional golf.Jason Day is a dark and handsome, muscular yet slender, six-foot tall, 27 year-old Australian who now lives … [Read more...]

Jason Day’s Vertigo Last Week

Jason Day is a much-liked, dark-haired, handsome, fit PGA Tour player from Australia with a super golf swing. He has been knocking at the door repeatedly to win his first major championship. In the third round of the U.S. Open last Saturday, he was walking on a fairway and all of a sudden he fell over, hit the ground, and his head bounced on the turf. At first he lay there rather motionless and people didn’t know what was wrong.Jason was having an instant bout of Benign Positional Vertigo ( … [Read more...]

Houdini Almost Won at Golf

Victor "Houdini" Dubuisson almost won the Word Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship yesterday at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona, which is near Tucson. That is, after his finals performance Sunday, this 23-year old Frenchman should add "Houdini" as his middle name. Why? He was about 3 down with five holes to play, so I turned off the TV figuring Victor's opponent--the fledgling 26-year old Australian Jason Day, who married an American, lives in the U.S., and … [Read more...]
