Why Did Nike Dump Golf?

Nike, Inc., announced today that it is abandoning its making and selling of golf equipment. Nike, named after the Greek "goddess of victory," apparently hasn't been scoring many victories lately at the cash register with sales from its golf equipment. I wonder why.First and foremost is that golf is losing ground, to make a pun. Golf real estate is … [Read more...]

Pro Golfers Are No Longer “Crazy” for Lifting Weights

I've lifted weights since I was eighteen years old. People in golf constantly told me, "Lifting weights is terrible for golf." Lots of pros told me that, too. Some said I was "crazy." When I was on the regular PGA Tour for eighteen years, I pumped iron when I could. I thought it helped me have a more compact golf swing and maybe gain a few yards off the tee. But I was afraid weight lifting might hurt my feel, my touch with the short game. So, I didn't lift weights for upper body strength much … [Read more...]

Zach Versus Tiger

Yesterday, Zach Johnson and Tiger Woods were paired together in the last group as Zach beat Tiger in a dramatic finish to win the tournament Tiger annually hosts--the Northwestern Mutual Challenge at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California. Two years prior, they went head-to-head in that tournament and Tiger emerged the victor.
