Ginger lesbian willing to explore bondage

Ginger lesbian willing to explore bondage February 26, 2014

Sorry I’m not sorry that I lured you here under false pretenses but this is NOT a queer “50 Shades” post.  Nope, this is simply a post that explores just a few of the reasons why I am willing to head down to the Georgia capital and present myself as a protesting witness to a legislative hearing regarding two pointedly anti-gay bills.  Georgia HB 1023 / SB 377 would authorize any business to refuse services and goods based on religious convictions. This would open a Pandora’s box of discrimination and anti-civil behavior targeting not only gays and lesbians but women, racial minorities and a cornucopia of religious groups.

Now as some of y’all know my former wife is a cop. What you don’t know is I often fantasized about her binding my hands in cuffs…as she was arresting me for finally evolving into who I am called to be as a Christian – an activist for justice.

At this moment it is unclear if the legislative hearing will actually happen this week but something within me has shifted that beckons me be even bolder, take more risks and to walk, shout, sing, write, speak, dance, sit, stand, march and Do What the Spirit Say Do and obey the Spirit of the Lord.

So here are just a few of the many reasons I’m experiencing my faith as a call to be willing to face the consequences of speaking truth to power in the name of love.

Because Mahatma Gandhi

Because Dorothy Day

Because Alice Paul

Because Mary Fisher

Because Richard Dillingham

Because Nelson Mandela

Because Rosa Parks

Because Bayard Rustin

Because Martin Luther King Jr.

Because Oscar Romero

Oh yeah, and because Jesus

Mostly because Jesus

Mind you, I’m have no intention of co-opting anyone else’s experience but I am looking to and inspired by others who have walked through the valley before me in hopes that I will gain just an ounce of their wisdom and courage.

Who inspires you to walk willingly into the hands of the oppressor?
