Homophobia in the doctor’s office

Over two years ago I posted about the fear I carry when visiting the doctor, especially when taking my children to receive health care. I hear all the time, from otherwise well-meaning folks, that things are getting better so I have nothing to really be afraid of. Actually, friends, the more things change, the more dangerous it can get.

A friend posted this in a private group on Facebook. With her permission, and the promise to preserve her anonymity, I want to share her very real concerns and a couple of telling screen shots from a “doctor” practicing in Georgia.

“I received very disappointing news last night about one of our local doctors. Really it’s just confirmation of what I already suspected from my personal interactions with this Doctor… I decided to browse her Facebook page. She is homophobic and speaks out against gay marriage, also a religious bigot that actually posted a quote from The Duck Dynasty quacks. I simply can’t believe this woman is a doctor. If you care about seeing a doctor with progressive ideas, faith in science, and that supports equal rights for all, I strongly suggest you avoid this woman!”

I checked the doctor’s Facebook page for myself and this is what I found:

In a state that is currently working to legalize discrimination of LGBT people based on religious views, this is terrifying.
