I was wrong, Trump is the right president for America. April 24, 2017

Maybe for a minute America was the light held atop the state of liberty, graciously welcoming the tired and huddled masses of the world. Maybe for just a minute we were the land of the free and the home of the brave that help stomp out the horrors that lead up to and occurred during WWII. And yes, some faithful folks led the way to equality for more people, inching us ever closer to the dangling promise of liberty and justice for all.

And yes, I am well aware that I and millions of others have long benefitted from the social, technological and medical advances made in America.

And I fully realize that on a personal level, as a woman (a white woman), I have it far better than women in many places on this planet (and women of color right here in my own community). Yup, I hear you, I can and did legally marry my wife right here in America. You are exactly right, America is not sending LGBT people to concentration camps like in Chechnya (though at least one America, “Christian” cult leader did suggest it as recently as 2012).

Sure, America is better than a lot of other places for a whole lot of people. Some, but not all and frankly she seems to be driving at break neck speed toward a terrible crash.

Every time I read the paper or watch the news (on any channel), I am struck to the core with what Americans have clearly set as their guiding light. It is not our Declaration of Independence, it is not our Constitution, it is certainly not a common good, and no, it is not God.

It is money. Profits over people. We see it in politics, we see it in the private sector and we even see it in the religious industrial complex.

We just aren’t a nation for the people, we are a nation for profit.

So, I’ve been thinking that maybe, just maybe Donald Trump is exactly the right president for America in 2017. Donald J. Trump, America’s gold plated hood ornament, is quite possibly the perfect symbol for all we have become. Selfish, profit driven, fear mongering caricatures of a dream we once had.
