The following clip, HBO George Carlin: Again! – Death and Dying, is from a 1978 show. Carlin explores death, the afterlife, and his feelings on funerals.
Once you get past the 1978 Dinah Shore Show fashion, the bit is brilliant. It’s great to see how he delivers the lines in front of a live audience. You just don’t get that with a comedy album.
I have a lot of thoughts about death. My old psychology professor always said, “Past behavior is the best predictor of future behavior.” I’m guessing I’m going to be as popular as I am now (not very) when I die. There’s nothing more depressing than a poorly attended funeral. Ergo, I’m going to be filling the seats of my funeral by having a meat raffle afterward.
