All too often, we rush past catastrophes half a world away with hardly a thought. We may pause to pray for them in fleeing moments, but quickly we forget, caught up in our daily busyness. I’m not casting any stones here — I’m guilty of feeling horrible when such tragic acts of violence happen but not really doing anything concrete to ask, “Why?” or to become a part of the solution.
Today, I ask you to read this article by the Associated Press which names many of the Westgate Mall attack in Kenya. The victims included a mother and 8 year old daughter from Britain, two sisters from Toronto, a Ghanaian poet, a pregnant media personality from Kenya and many other souls, lost forever to their loved ones.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
