More specials: Serenity clip. Best album of ’05? Smog video. Narnia pics.

More specials:

  • A truly troubling clip that seems to be from Joss Whedon’s Serenity. Viewer discretion … no, make that listener discretion advised.

  • Josh Hurst just noticed that Sufjan Stevens’ Illinois is no longer the “best-reviewed album of the year” … at least for now. Who took over the #1 spot? The New Pornographers.
  • There are a bunch of new Narnia photos available at this site. Scroll down to Recent Articles and snoop around. You’ll even catch a glimpse of the not-so-cowardly lion himself.UPDATE: Okay, fine… HERE!

About Jeffrey Overstreet

Jeffrey Overstreet has two passions: writing fiction, and celebrating art — music, cinema, photography, literature — through writing and teaching. He is the author of a “memoir of dangerous moviegoing” — Through a Screen Darkly. And his four-novel fantasy series, The Auralia Thread, which begins with Auralia's Colors, was published by Random House. He speaks at universities and conferences around the world about understanding art through eyes of faith. He is earning his MFA in Creative Writing at Seattle Pacific University, where he has worked for 11 years as an editor, writer, and communications project manager. His work has been recognized in The New Yorker, TIME, The Seattle Times, IMAGE, Ravi Zacharias International — and Christianity Today, where he served as a film journalist for more than a decade. He recently began a weekly column called "Listening Closer" for Christ and Pop Culture.

Hmm. Could it be that the clip is some promotional piece connected with the film, but not actually a part of it? She looks JUST LIKE Summer Glau, and the way she talks sounds just like River. Weird…

Regarding the supposed “Serenity” clip, check out “Update II” on the site:

“UPDATE II: Someone named Andrew wrote in with this info:

“It is true that the woman looks and sounds like Summer Glau, and the plot/action of the short clip has some thematic relationship with the TV series Firefly (hence also with Serenity), however, I’m quite certain that this clip itself is not from the movie. I was one of the lucky few who got to see what was billed as a final cut of Serenity at Comic-Con a few weeks ago, and nothing resembling that scene was in it.”

Let’s not go all crazy just because River is ;)
