Who would you cast? (Answer, and You Might Win a Prize.)

One of my favorite kinds of “wishful thinking” is to cast movies of my favorite novels. I’ve been “dream-casting” since I was a kid. I remember deciding that I wanted to see Ian Holm play Bilbo Baggins when I was in high school, and lo… it came to be. I wanted to see Daniel Day-Lewis play Aragorn… and it’s been reported that they actually offered him the part more than once! (Oh, if only he’d taken that.) So…

… that has made me braver. Why not imagine who might be cast in my own stories? Who knows? It might happen!

So, as the third book in The Auralia Thread approaches, I’m giving away some free copies. You can win them simply by dream-casting three characters from any of the first two books: Auralia’s Colors and Cyndere’s Midnight.

Here’s how to enter the contest:

On your blog, website, or Facebook page, name the actors you’d cast as THREE major Auralia Thread characters.

You can post the book covers for decoration. (Just steal it from here: Auralia’s Colors, Cyndere’s Midnight, Raven’s Ladder)

Then… and this is important… Send me a private message (FB or email) with a link to your entry. My new Facebook page is here, my email is joverstreet@gmail.com. Please title your message RAVEN’S LADDER CONTEST.

I’ll talk with the book’s editors about which entry is most inspired.

GRAND PRIZE: All 3 Auralia Thread books, signed.
RUNNER-UP: RAVEN’S LADDER, signed.

Deadline: 2/10/10.

About Jeffrey Overstreet

Jeffrey Overstreet has two passions: writing fiction, and celebrating art — music, cinema, photography, literature — through writing and teaching. He is the author of a “memoir of dangerous moviegoing” — Through a Screen Darkly. And his four-novel fantasy series, The Auralia Thread, which begins with Auralia's Colors, was published by Random House. He speaks at universities and conferences around the world about understanding art through eyes of faith. He is earning his MFA in Creative Writing at Seattle Pacific University, where he has worked for 11 years as an editor, writer, and communications project manager.
