Introducing, Raised Quiverfull!

Nine young adults who were raised in families involved in the Christian Patriarchy and Quiverfull movements have come together here to answer questions about their upbringing, their questioning, and their transition to lives in the normal world. Ranging in age from their early twenties to their early thirties, all have questioned and left the Christian Patriarchy and Quiverfull movements and all but one blog against what they see as the destructive results of those movements. These nine young … [Read more...]

“Atheism” Section Complete

As you may have noticed, I've redone my tabs. Besides "Home" and "About" I now have four tabs: My Beliefs, Social Issues, Evangelical Culture, and Parenting. There are three to five sections under each tab dealing with such issues as Christian Patriarchy, Feminism, Positive Parenting, and Humanism. Each of these sections has an introduction with basic information followed by pages containing "Key Posts" and "Resources." I hope my readers, and any who stumble upon my blog, will find these tabs … [Read more...]

“Raised Quiverfull” Project

I hope you guys are getting excited about the panel I've put together to answer questions on growing up in - and subsequently leaving - the Christian Patriarchy and Quiverfull movements. I know I am! There are a total of almost forty questions divided into nine sections, and from the responses I've plugged in so far, I can tell you it's going to be extremely fascinating.Take a look at the tab I've created for it: "Raised Quiverfull," the tab on the very right. Clicking on that tab will give … [Read more...]

How do you like the site redesign?

As you may have noticed (or not, if you use a reader), Patheos has upgraded its entire site, and the blogs got a bit of a redo in the process. For one thing, they're a bit more integrated into Patheos as a whole, and for another thing, they're a bit more connected to the other blogs in their channel (Love Joy Feminism is in the atheist channel). While I can't control most of the site design, I can play with the widgets in the sidebar. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to see there … [Read more...]

A Note on My Commenting Policy

I just wanted to let my readers know that if you post a comment and I don't respond it's because I don't make a policy of responding to every comment or even every comment that poses a question. When I first started blogging almost a year ago, I did. But now I don't, and that's for two reasons:First, time. It takes time to write these posts, so I really don't have time to go around responding to every comment. I mean, I do have a husband and family and I am in grad school and all!Second, … [Read more...]

Q&A with Leah of Unequally Yoked

One of my fellow bloggers in Patheos' atheist portal - Leah of Unequally Yoked - suggested a little while ago that we do side-by-side Q&A posts. I took her up on the offer, and even let her write the questions (two blog-related, two personal, and two wacky)! Her answers are running here on Love, Joy, Feminism and mine are running on Unequally Yoked (click here to read them!).Q: What's the target audience for your blog, what do you try to share with them?Leah: I write for a mixed … [Read more...]

Christian Right Section Complete

I’ve just completed the section under another tab — the Christian Right. You can view this section either by clicking the tab itself (“Christian Right,” in the middle of the tabs immediately below the header) or by clicking here. As you will see, the section offers a basic summary of what I call the “purity culture,”followed by pages containing key posts and resources (websites, books, and articles). Please let me know if there is anything you think should be added to this section, or anyth … [Read more...]
