Doug Wilson: Obama’s Election Is God’s Judgment

seven mountains

There have been a lot of different responses by conservatives to the results of the election nearly two weeks ago. Some have advocated for "doubling down," arguing that Republican candidates weren't conservative enough and didn't talk about issues like abortion and gay marriage enough while others have argued that conservatives in general, and the Christian Right in particular, need to change their tactics and recognize that changes in voter demographics are likely to … [Read more...]

Vision Forum, Militias, Dominionism, and Weaponry

Militia

A reader left the following comment on my post on Vision Forum and gender roles: My goodness, the almost single-minded emphasis on violence in the boys’ toys is seriously disturbing! That emphasis is not accidental. Christian Patriarchy organization Vision Forum uses the term "dominion" without any intended irony, and it's not the only leading organization in the Christian Patriarchy movement to be so focused on weapons and military training. Here's a paragarph from an article Doug Wilson … [Read more...]

Stoning Rebellious Children? A Look At Dominionism

dominionism

There's a story going around the internet about a candidate for state office in Arkansas who wrote a book that argues, among other things, that parents should be able to have rebellious children executed. Here's more: Charlie Fuqua, the Republican candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives who called forexpelling Muslims from the United States in his book, also wrote in support for instituting the death penalty for “rebellious children.” In “God’s Law,” Fuqua’s 2012 … [Read more...]

Worthwhile Reads: Reconstruction and Secularist “Religion”

I was delighted to see two recent excellent articles by two of my favorite scholars, so I thought I'd share. Kirk Cameron's Growing Circle of Reconstrucitonist Friends, by Julie Ingersoll Behind the Right's Phony War on the Nonexistent Religion of Secularism, by Rick Perlstein … [Read more...]

Worthwhile Reads: Monumental and Titanic

First, Julie Ingersoll examines What Kirk Cameron's Monumental Reveals about the Subtle Influence of Reconstructionism. This is a must read. Second, with the anniversary of the Titanic's sinking coming up, Doug Phillips is planning a centennial celebration - and arguing that the movie "Titanic" Dishonors the Sacrifice of Brave Men. This is an example of Vision Forum's Titanic Worship. … [Read more...]

Christian Reconstructionism, Gays, and Stoning

I recently read a New York Times piece about the vigilante killing of gays in Iraq. For at least six years, gays have been bullied and harassed by security forces and beaten and killed by reactionary Islamist militias in Shiite areas of Baghdad. Ali Hili, a gay Iraqi activist who lives in London, said as many as 750 gay Iraqis have been killed in the past six years, and thousands have emigrated or are living deep in the closet. “It’s a clear war on sexual minorities on Iraq,” he … [Read more...]

Worthwhile Reads: Kirk Cameron, Monumental, and Dominionism

"Monumental" Lies - Kirk Cameron Visits David Barton - Chris Rodda skillfully debunks the "history" presented in Kirk Cameron's latest film, Monumental, which discusses America's supposedly Christian founding and the nation's subsequent straying from this foundation. A Monumentally Different Kirk Cameron - The ever-insightful Julie Ingersoll reveals that Monumental represents Cameron's transition from mainstream evangelical premillenialism to the Christian reconstructionism of Rushdoony … [Read more...]
