Gun sales among minorities rise, hopefully a sign they’re becoming less dependent on government

Gun sales among minorities rise, hopefully a sign they’re becoming less dependent on government December 1, 2016

Anytime legal gun sales rise there is cause for celebration. That means people are taking their own safety seriously and making personal protection a priority. It also means the Second Amendment is doing what it’s supposed to.

Right now, gun sales are rising among minorities. Shop owners are seeing four times as many black and minority customers and attendance at meetings for black gun rights groups have doubled since the election. Of course, the way NBC News reported this uptick was negative. They’re headline screamed, “Trump’s Victory Has Fearful Minorities Buying Up Guns.” The general spin in the article: blacks are flocking to gun stores to protect themselves from Trump-inspired racist hate crimes. But where are all these mobs of white supremacists marching the streets in search of black blood? Nowhere, as far as the eye can see.

So, what is driving NBC’s fear mongering? The leftist “civil rights” group known as the Southern Poverty Law Center and its bloated statistics showing an “outbreak” in hate incidents since Trump was elected. Basically, they’ve received hundreds of reports of “harassment,” many of which have been debunked, as noted by PJ Media.

But all of this nonsense aside, I believe this is good news for several reasons. Even if there are some minorities who are motivated to buy a weapon out of fear over sour race relations, that’s their right. If you perceive a threat, protect yourself. It’s completely understandable since they’ve spent the last eight years being whipped into a frenzy by the Race Agitator-in-Chief, as Instapundit described President Obama.

Plus, this must really stick in the craw of gun control advocates witnessing fellow Democrats exercising their Second Amendment rights and arming themselves. It hurts the cause when members of your own political party aren’t lining up with the platform.

Which leads me to my final, and most hopeful, praise of this news. I think we’ve seen an awakening in minority communities that Democratic policies have failed them for far too long. A generally reliable base steered clear of Hillary Clinton this year, and many favored Trump or stayed away from the polls because they realized her policies would renew the status quo. This surge in gun purchases should be viewed as an increase in personal responsibility, not just fear alone. The reality is, this is yet another step forward for these communities in becoming less dependent on the government for protection and meeting their every need, and that’s the best news of all.
