I Hate Being Right All the Time

Paul Thigpen of Envoy Magazine writes me:

You probably caught it, but your item about the coming attack on the seal of the confessional sure seemed prophetic in light of this news item yesterday (somehow the source didn’t get copied when I downloaded the text–I think it was either from the Boston Globe or the NYT):

In Connecticut, the state House approved a bill that would bring sweeping changes to state laws on child sex abuse. The measure, approved 144-2, would require priests to break their oath of confidentiality if they learn of a crime during confession. It would also extend the statute of limitations in child sex abuse cases and increase penalties for those convicted.

Memo To the State of Connecticut:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

Prosecute pervert priests and the bishops who fly cover for them all you like. But keep your stinking hands off the holy sacraments of Jesus Christ.
